The last we saw Don Draper, he was in front of his old house (he grew up in a brothel) on the Season 6 finale, looking for answers.
AMC’s Mad Men is back in April and pulling a Breaking Bad two part series finale. Do I like that “two-part” route? No. Well…yes and no. It for one, gives me another “season” of Mad Men. But, I am impatient and want to know all the answers – or at least try to surmise possible outcomes.
Speaking of answers, Donald Francis Draper (er…I mean, Dick Whitman?) doesn’t have a lot of them. In fact, he has more questions than ever about who he is. Has Don finally fallen off the building, like the title sequence of the show depicts? He has taken a mandatory leave of absence from the agency he helped create and runs. Don seems to be on a track to being genuinely happy; something he really hasn’t been in a long time. Are we about to learn that the power and swagger that Don has personified throughout the series to be a lie and that he is happier living in simpler times? It surely seems it is heading that way.
As the season debut comes closer I’ll take a further look into other large issues at hand: Bob Benson, the future of SCDP, the hodgepodge of relationships in the show, and possible endings to the show.
So, stock up on your Canadian Club and grab a pack or two of Lucky Strikes, Season 7 is about to be one wild, 60s vibe type of ride.
Mad Men will return April 13 on AMC Sundays 10|9c.
