With two new games in the works for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, we were bound to get a leaked image or two. From the project titled Assassin’s Creed Unity, we see the familiar third person view of our protagonist, Arno in the midst of the French Revolution.
Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier broke the news March 19th after being sent the screenshots by an anonymous source. There’s been a great deal of speculation from the Internet about when and where the next game would take place. Ubisoft declined comment, but we can make a few inferences about the game based on these images.
1.) The finished product will look MUCH better than these initial screenshots.
This should be no surprise that the textures are extremely rough at this stage in the production process. Based on Ubisoft’s past titles, it’s safe to say we’ve got nothing to worry about
2.) Revolutionary France will be epic.
The Ubisoft teams, and specifically Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond, seem beyond excited for the next game. Raymond stated in an interview with AdWeek that the next game in the franchise is set in her “favorite historical era.” The attention to detail that Ubisoft throws into the Assassin’s Creed games should leave us with hours of exploration in 1700s France.
3.) The free running ability may be getting a revamp.
In my opinion, the free running system only gets better with each title in the series, and the addition of “parkour up” and “parkour down” commands could be a great new addition to the mechanics of traversing the world.
All in all, Assassin’s Creed Unity could be a worthwhile investment. It seems the Internet has gotten over the idea of a game set in Feudal Japan or Egypt. Unity will be one of two games released sometime in 2014.
